PEARLS for Girls

As liaison you meet with our PEARLS partners; College and Career Readiness Director and Volunteer/Alumnae Coordinators to discuss the year’s volunteer opportunities to support PEARLS.

The Liaison position is responsible for getting this information out to the membership; through Post Graduate articles, presentations at meetings, emails or signup sheets at meetings.

The amount of time spent is currently less than 10 hours a month. It can be more when face-to-face opportunities present themselves. Time for meetings with the PEARLS leadership in the past has been for discussions on the yearly plans and how the AAUW members could help.

By providing inner city girls with support in learning and growing, we fulfill the AAUW principle to “advance equity for women and girls through education, advocacy, philanthropy and research”.  A yearly scholarship is provided by AAUW in addition to opportunities to Coach and/or volunteer at events for the girls and their families.

Skills necessary to be successful in this position:

  • Interpersonal skills will help you to interface with the PEARLS leaders, AAUW members and the girls themselves. Perseverance is needed to contact people to try to get involvement.
