PEARLS for Teen Girls

PEARLS for Teen Girls, a Milwaukee based non-profit, is one of the community outreach initiatives supported by our AAUW West Suburban-Milwaukee Branch. AAUW members have helped to support the mission through volunteerism, donations, scholarship and becoming a personal coach to a teen girl.

PEARLS for Teen Girls Mission: PEARLS for Teen Girls is improving quality of life and strengthening our community one girl at a time by empowering young women with self-development tools, guidance and support to strive for better, brighter futures by living out the PEARLS values: Personal Responsibility, Empathy, Awareness, Respect, Leadership and Support.

Volunteer Opportunities with PEARLS for Teen Girls:

Specials Events: Participate in PEARLS events such as College Prep Party and Holiday Party

College and Career Coach
The College & Career Coach Program is designed to support a PEARLS girl in her junior and senior year of high school. Through this year-long program, each girl participant is paired with a coach who will serve in a support role to assist a PEARLS girl as she explores her options for the future, learns the ins and outs of applying for college, and/or gets started in a long-term, sustaining career path.  This opportunity requires a one year commitment and affords a significant impact on PEARLS girls!

Scholarship:
For the last several years, our AAUW branch has supported the Colleen Fitzgerald Legacy PEARLS Graduating Senior Scholarship Fund. Each year graduating seniors and alumnae who have been active in PEARLS for Teen Girls are awarded PEARLS scholarships to attend colleges and universities across the country.

Donations:
Watch for information regarding College Care Package donations! Items are collected in the fall for PEARLS alumni who are attending college. Personal supplies, gift cards and school supplies help to support girls and make surviving at college just a little bit easier.

Making an Impact:
PEARLS for Teen Girls strives to make a difference in the lives of girls and young women. Gerry Howze, Director states, “For our part at PEARLS, we promise to continue providing strong programming to support our growing girls to become their best selves, to help them to develop their own confidence and trust amongest one another that radiates beyond their hearts and into their sisters, their mothers, their brothers, fathers, classmates, their block.”

With the support of our AAUW Branch, we can help to make a positive impact on the world of young girls and women!
